After The Witcher 3's next-gen patch, the PC version experienced a lot of performance issues. Regardless of how powerful your hardware is and no matter what settings you used, the game just ran poorly, and was far below the standard of the pre-patch version. The hotfix is a PC-exclusive patch that's set to remedy these issues, and was released on December 19, yesterday as of writing this.

"We've just released a hotfix for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC which should improve overall stability and performance of the game, and fix GOG and Steam overlays. The game version won't change", they said in a statement on The Witcher website. "At the same time, the next-gen update has been released for the Origin version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game version is going to be 4.0."

The update is confirmed to be roughly 3 GB for Steam, and 1.9 GB for GOG, according to Marcin Momot, a global community director for CD PROJEKT RED. Hopefully this new patch fixes enough of the problems to allow players to begin experiencing the game on PC with all the new features of the next-gen version.

That's all for our explainer of The Witcher 3 hotfix, a relatively small patch that was deployed for PC to fix performance issues introduced in the next-gen update.

We also cover how you can find The Witcher 3 White Tiger of the West armor, which is a powerful set of gear added in the next-gen update.
