There are many enemy types in Ubisoft's latest shooter, but the Rainbow Six Extraction Sludge has to be one of the most alluring. Rainbow Six Extraction Sludge: What Is The Sludge?

The Rainbow Six Extraction Sludge is a predominantly dormant enemy type, much like the latching yellow spores - see our Rainbow Six Extraction tips which covers how to deal with them. The Sludge is typically found hanging from ceilings and can be heard before seen thanks to its accompanying high-pitch squealing sound. It is a red-glowing goo-like substance that will slime its way towards you when you engage.
This is a pretty low-level enemy type and can for the most part be entirely ignored. However, much like how the lowly Grunt can take an operator with three swipes, the Sludge can still rapidly deplete those health bars. The issue with the Rainbow Six Extraction Sludge is that when engaged it will split into three or four mini-Sludges, which all head for the nearest operator, zapping them in the process. So quickly it can become a problem.

Rainbow Six Extraction Sludge: How To Kill The Sludge Without Dividing It

If you are working your way through the studies for each district, you will eventually come across a task, "Keep It Clean", that requires you kill a Rainbow Six Extraction Sludge without it dividing. This study is a part of the San Francisco incursion, and is the fourth out of ten, so you'll need to work your way to the beginning three before getting to the Sludge.
To kill the Sludge without dividing it in Rainbow Six Extraction you are required to kill it with either explosives or shotgun rounds. This can of course mean drawing attention to yourself, however, luckily you will only have to do this once. However, if you aren't keen on losing that stealthy touch of yours, we found that concentrated fire from a silenced assault rifle whilst playing solo and on the lowest difficulty also allows you to kill the Sludge before it splits.
The accompanying study quests, "Watch Your Step" and "In The Walls" are far easier in comparison, as they only require that you kill one without getting hit and pinging or shooting one as it hangs from the ceiling.
That's everything you need to know about killing the Rainbow Six Extraction Sludge without it dividing. For more incursion assistance, check out our guide to the Rainbow Six Extraction best operators.
