While there are other battle royale games on the market, few have managed to surpass the runaway success of Epic Games' Fortnite. Although it was originally released as a PvE game, the success of the battle royale elements caused Fortnite to branch off into various modes like Save the World and the staple Battle Royale.

These days, Fortnite is largely known for its Battle Royale mode, and an ever-evolving map that changes with each season. From the first season all the way back October 2017, through to June 2021's Chapter 2 Season 7, there's a 100-tier Battle Pass to chug through, skins to unlock, and an overarching story. If you want to know how long each season of Fortnite lasts, we've got the answer.

Typically, each season of Fortnite lasts for between 10 and 12 weeks. That being said, there have been longer seasons. In particular, the hunter extravaganza that was Chapter 2 Season 5 ran from December 2 to March 15. It also included the Christmas break, so it might explain why it was so long. Still, that's nothing to the massive four-month season of Chapter 2 Season 1 from October 15 to February 20. Elsewhere, we've seen shorter seasons, with Chapter 1 Season 3 running from February 22 to April 30.

As a rough guide, the average Fortnite Season is 11.5 weeks long - meaning you have more than enough time to make it to the top. If you crunch the numbers and look at the previous 16 seasons, 11.5 weeks (or just under three months) is your final figure. If that isn't long enough to climb the Battle Pass ladder, maybe you aren't the Fortnite fan you claim to be.

Are Fortnite seasons getting longer?

Even though some think seasons of Fortnite are getting longer, that isn't necessarily the case. Chapter 1 had two 12-week seasons (Season 7 and Season 9), while Chapter 2 Season 1 was the epic 18-week season. Since then, season lengths have continued to fluctuate. Chapter 2 Season 4 kept the might of Marvel coming for 14 weeks, while the hunt of Chapter 2 Season 5 was a hefty 15 weeks. Despite Primal cramming so much into its season in terms of crafting and map overhaul, Chapter 2 Season 6 bowed out after just 11.

It seems there's no rhyme or reason for the length of a Fortnite season - other than the fact it usually updates on a Thursday. We're still getting used to the alien invasion of Chapter 2 Season 7, but that hasn't stopped eager beavers marking September 12 in their diaries for the debut of Season 8. With a whole summer to unlock Rick Sanchez, put our best red pants on as Superman, and send E.T. home, you'd better settle in for a while.

One thing is for sure, though. Just like Fishstick is guaranteed to set up shop in Craggy cliffs, there's going to be another Fortnite season to conquer before you know what's hit you.
