Sports management sims such as F1 Manager 2024 are all about iteration over innovation, and that’s certainly true with some of the new features teased for the upcoming release from Frontier. The last two games in the series saw players taking over one of the ten existing teams in the paddock, building them up to success throughout several seasons.

In F1 Manager 2024, you’ll be able to create your own team completely from scratch, and the latest presentation from Frontier has shown how you’ll be able to customise your car’s livery, as well as your driver's race suit and helmet.

How livery customisation works in F1 Manager 2024

As revealed in March’s ‘Frontier Unlocked’ stream, players will be able to customise the livery of their car while playing the ‘Create-A-Team’ mode.

The stream showed two possible livery layouts, with more to come when the game launches. Players can choose from a whole colour wheel as to how these designs look, or you can get creative and use a gradient if you’re feeling fancy. Whichever way you design your livery, it’ll no doubt have more paint than some of the cars in the actual 2024 season of carbon fibre.

What’s even more exciting is that players can design special edition ‘one-off’ liveries to use for certain races in the season, much like we’ve seen from McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari in the past.

Frontier promises that there’s much more to this tool that’s yet to be revealed, so I’ll update this article once we learn more about the feature.

It’s not just your car’s livery that you can customise in F1 Manager 2024 - you can design your driver’s race suits, too. In a gameplay clip provided by Frontier, we can see the player choosing which colours to darn their fire-proof suits, as well as where to place their fictional sponsor logos.

Frontier says that over 50 fictional sponsors have been thought up, each with its own logo to splash on their driver’s garments. This customisation spreads to the helmets, too. It’s also unclear if there will be any real-world sponsors replicated in F1 Manager 2024.

When I reached out to Frontier regarding this, it clarified: "Team Principals will negotiate with 50 fictional sponsors in Create a Team mode". Expect more news on this in the future.

What’s also exciting is that the colour scheme you choose to go for will be reflected in things like the team’s garage and pit gantry during race gameplay, so you’ll truly feel like you’re managing your very own F1 team from scratch.
