Armored Core 6 is just around the corner after a ten-year hiatus, which has got many of us wondering if it will be a reboot, and if not, where will it fit into the series' timeline. Although this is the 6th numbered entry into the series, there have been a few spin-offs and expansions for previous games.

The game will continue on in the footsteps of its predecessors with a focus on high octane, mech combat, in a dystopian setting but as we know from previous Armored Core games, FromSoftware is prone to mixing things up. Armored Core 5 for example had a much bigger emphasis on multiplayer than previous games.

With that said, let’s dive into whether or not Armored Core 6 is set to be a reboot, as well as where it fits in with the other games in the series.

Armored Core 6 is another fresh reboot of the series, taking us to a new planet that has been ravaged by a cosmic event. This isn’t unusual for the series, with all the games feeling separate even if they were a continuation of the previous game, whilst there have also been plenty of reboots before too.

If there is much of a relationship between Armored Core 6 and previous games, it will likely be distant at best. We are expecting you’ll see some nods and references, for those who are die-hard fans, but if you’re a newcomer this will feel like a fresh start and a great jumping on point for the series.

Although it is a reboot, we are still unsure of where it will fit into previous games, if it will fit in at all. But let’s take a look at the timeline of the rest of the games so far.

If you’re planning on jumping into Armored Core 6, you might be wondering what games have come before and where Armored Core 6 fits in with the chronology of the series. At times, this can get confusing, because despite Armored Core 6 not being a reboot, the games have had a couple of reboots in the past.

There are three timelines in total, although Armored Core 6 may be set in a completely fresh timeline too, we know it is a reboot but where it is set in a completely new world it could be a distant continuation of the 5th game. Here are the games and their corresponding timelines.

  • Timeline 1: Armored Core 1, Armored Core 2
  • Timeline 2: Armored Core 3
  • Timeline 3: Armored Core 4, Armored Core 5

That is all there is to know about the Armored Core timeline, and whether or not this game is a reboot. If you can’t wait for more on the game, then make sure you take a look at our Armored Core 6 homepage, and for everything else, keep reading GGRecon.
