While the announcement of the new Call of Duty mode for Black Ops Cold War wasn't exactly a well-kept secret, that hasn't stopped there being plenty of hype for the upcoming release of Zombies Outbreak. If you can't wait to exfil into the long-anticipated open world Zombies experience, now you can.

Players have figured out that the drop of the Cold War Season 2 update has given them a secret way to slip through the cracks and gain access to Outbreak before it claws its way into the mainstream. At the time of writing, YouTube is flooded with clips of gamers exploring Russia's Ural Mountains and getting the jump on Outbreak before their rivals. Safe to say, we're excited to take a "bite" out of the competition.

How can you play Zombies Outbreak early?

To access Zombies Outbreak early, download the Season 2 update and then go offline. Log back on and head to Zombies, use the Find Games tab, and create a match. If you're in the offline custom games area of Zombies, you'll be able to access Outbreak on Alpine, Ruka, and Golova. It's great news for those who want to see what all the fuss is about early, but remember, you can't access Zombies Outbreak in online...yet. Also, note that the offline Zombies Outbreak is currently only available for PlayStation and Xbox owners, meaning PC players will have to wait for tomorrow.

With the Zombies Outbreak early access method taking off on social media, it remains to be seen whether Activision will allow us to keep playing ahead of schedule, or whether it will introduce a quick hotfix to save the surprise for the official launch at 6pm GMT on February 25. Of course, this isn't the only Zombies content on the horizon, with the fan-favourite Warzone also set to add those brain-hungry munchers to Verdansk.

What is Zombies Outbreak all about?

If you're getting itchy trigger fingers, Zombies Outbreak is a four-player co-op mode where you and other Operators have to escort a rover across the map while tackling various ghouls popping out of the Dark Aether portals. You have to help Requiem in its quest to win the Cold War, but as usual, Omega Group isn't far behind. If that wasn't enough, the continuation of the Dark Aether storyline will be free-to-play in both the main game and Warzone for the first week.

When it comes to Warzone, no one's quite sure what's going on, but everything from the Verdansk ship to nukes are tipped to potentially wipe out the map and lead to a complete overhaul. Obliterating the Verdansk we've come to know and love since the battle royale game took off last March sounds like the perfect opportunity to bring zombies into play. While we wait for the official drop of Zombies Outbreak and a clearer roadmap for what Activision is planning with those rotting rascals, at least we can get a sneak peek at what's going on.
