The rules of the typical Battle Royale format are very simple to understand - be the last competitor or squad alive, and you win the match.
That's been the case in Warzone since 2020, but it's all about to change on January 17, with a brand-new path to victory being added via Covert Exfils.
This method of winning involves an extraction from Urzikstan, but it isn't as simple as it seems. On top of that, only a limited amount of teams will be able to execute it in one given game.
Season 1 Reloaded adds a new path to victory in Warzone matches
The Season 1 Reloaded blog has arrived, and the Covert Exfil section was a jaw-dropping read for a lot of Warzone fans. For some, the new win condition sounds amazing, but for others, they're concerned it will completely compromise the Battle Royale format.
Covert Exfils effectively allow competitors to extract from a match early "for a high price" in Buy Stations before the Gulag closes. The process involves calling down a helicopter to pick you up, then making it out before an enemy squad attempts to spoil the party.
It's worth noting that only five exfils are available to purchase per match, and it's expected that significantly less will even be possible. Finally, there's going to be a separate leaderboard for Covert Exfils so it doesn't muddy the waters of the win charts.
Warzone dev reveals Covert Exfil may removed if it ruins BR experience
As expected, not everyone is happy with the idea of players securing a victory without having to survive until the end. This backlash has been relayed towards Warzone's Senior Creative Director Ted Simmons who has replied to concerned fans.
The dev has made it clear that "If we overcooked it - we'll correct it," meaning they're open to making changes or even removing the option if it ruins the integrity of the BR. However, they're confident it won't be too easy as "it's challenging to pull off", and they only expect "one successful Covert Exfil per match" on average.
Of course, time will tell whether this feature hits the mark, but for now, the community is definitely sceptical.
