Titanfall 2 Has Been Compromised By 'Intense Hacking'

Titanfall 2 has had it pretty rough over the last year. Many fans feel the game has been neglected and abandoned by Respawn Entertainment, as the team have shifted their focus to the immensely popular battle royale title Apex Legends. The game’s been left during a period where a lot of players are coming back to appreciate it after a rocky launch, and the game’s addition to the Game Pass has not only boosted its notoriety, but also the sum of players feeling like the game was worth more than its treatment from developers.

This led to the #SaveTitanfall hack, a disruptive hack that took over Apex Legends with the sole purpose of making Respawn Entertainment see that fans still want more Titanfall by taking over the visual elements of the game.

And now, hackers are taking advantage all over again - but they’re a little nastier this time around.

Titanfall 2 Has Been Compromised

As announced by Respawn themselves, Titanfall 2 has fallen prey to a vicious hacking attack that has been crashing games.

The team made a post on Twitter confirming the problem was real after rumours swirled online, and have made attempts to quell the player panic. “We are aware of reports of a security vulnerability affecting Titanfall 2 and we are investigating”, reads their first tweet. “We have no other information to share at the moment but will update once we do.”

They then followed up with another tweet a few hours later, stating “We’re still investigating this issue but our engineers believe that we’re dealing with a simple exploit that can be used to crash games. We do not believe there are any more serious risks to affected players or their machines.”

Thankfully, the problem is on its way to being ironed out - but previous suggestions made the hack seem much scarier.

Titanfall 2 Hack Rumoured To Exploit Sensitive Information

A Twitter post of a Reddit post of a Discord screenshot (sorry, this runs pretty deep) actually suggested that the Titanfall 2 hack had more nefarious intentions, and that the hack was designed to take control of payer hardware.

“Please uninstall the game and DO NOT launch it”, says the user. “There are reports of a bug in the game that allows local code execution from the server. Assuming hackers have control of Stryder’s Admin Panel (TF2 and Apex servers), that could leave both your computer and your console vulnerable to exploits by launching the game. All platforms are affected.”

There’s not much in the way of proof of the hack’s malintent, but it certainly scared some players for a while. Still, at least the game is safe for now, and maybe it’s been a wake-up call to Respawn that while they won’t pay attention to the game in the way of content, they might need to update its security.
