Those Switch Pro Leaks Are Back - With A New Release

We’ve all been dragged down this road before, so let’s just get back into it already. There are new rumours about Nintendo working on a Switch Pro - that could also outright be a Switch 2 - reportedly set to release in Christmas of 2022 or early 2023.

Rumours of the Switch Pro have been around for a while now, and with additional murmurs that developers were provided 4K dev kits recently - the next evolution of the Switch seems more tangible than ever.

What Are The Switch Pro Leaks?

Verified leaker NateDrake has made claims that the rumoured 4K dev kits were given to larger developers and publishers in 2020, with smaller studios being gifted them over the course of 2021. He also thinks the next stage of the Switch won’t be a simple upgrade to a Switch Pro, but instead a full-blown Switch 2.

NateDrake can’t outright confirm this, however, admits that there is still uncertainty at Nintendo about whether to present it as a new console or just another upgrade.

Lending further truth to everything, NateDrake has reported that Nintendo recently registered a patent for some kind of DLSS technology designed for achieving 4K resolution. It’s suggested that developers are already hard at work making 4K games for the next edition of the console - with a target of late 2022 to finish.

Dataminers seem to also back up many of the 4K game rumours, though they've discovered that the next Switch edition may not be backwards compatible - which is a loss for consumers. A ResetEra post by Drake states the issue could potentially be worked around.

Is there any evidence yet of the next Switch?

The short answer is no. We’ve seen no physical leaks of any dev kits or information regarding the next Switch as of yet. We've just stuck in a sea of rumours from leakers and dataminers. Nintendo has also vehemently denied everything, though that’s expected as the gaming giant is probably wanting to protect whatever surprises are up its sleeves.

The Switch is approaching five years on the market as 2022 pokes its head around the corner, and with it nowhere near the power of the newer consoles on the market, it might be due an upgrade soon. We won’t know until Nintendo decides to make an official announcement, but as the rumours suggest early 2023 as the latest it will come, we may get that announcement very soon.
