Let’s be clear, before we start lambasting Nintendo - the Nintendo Switch is a delightful console.

The advent of the Joy-Con has changed what we expect of gaming controllers, and the versatility of the console has offered a new way to break the barrier between home and handheld consoles. But, fans have been disappointed by its legacy.

The announcement of the OLED model of the Switch was a surprise to many, as rumours of a ‘pro’ version of the console swirled the internet - promising to bring higher graphical fidelity and processing power. In theory, this would make short work of the upcoming sequel to Breath of the Wild, and even the more hefty titles like Monster Hunter Rise. But, it never materialised.

So why, pray tell, are reports coming to light that claim some games companies are developing in 4K for Nintendo consoles?

According to a report from Bloomberg, multiple developers around the world have been granted access to a developer kit for the Nintendo Switch, that supposedly enables 4K on the device.

It’s unclear as to whether this was in preparations for a planned 4K Switch model that was later scrapped, or if these plans are yet to come to fruition. Either way, it seems like some of the teams making games could be developing games in 4K for the Nintendo Switch.

While it's a prospect that is incredibly exciting for a lot of Nintendo fans, especially as the next generation of gaming is soaring past the Switch in terms of hardware. This might sound great, but now, Nintendo has spoken.

Nintendo Calls 4K Claims ‘Inaccurate’

In a statement to Bloomberg, a representative of Nintendo has regarded the claims as “inaccurate". Even though they hadn’t chosen to elaborate on this, a new tweet from the NintendoCoLTD Twitter account, the company have clarified further on the validity of the claims.

It will be a shame if this ends up being the case, as Nintendo very much have the ability to make the Switch Pro a reality. Sadly, it looks like the House of Mario is happier focussing on the OLED model of the Switch, which despite its backlash, is selling out preorders across the globe already.

Maybe the 4K Switch is yet another dream - but who knows? Since the Switch’s life cycle began some time ago now, 4K could be on the menu for Nintendo’s next offering.
