You Can Now Buy A Giant Simpsons Arcade Machine
Tell your folks, "Buy me: Bonestorm or go to hell". If you're ready for a serious dose of retro nostalgia, there's a giant Simpsons arcade machine that brings the dysfunctional yellow family right into your living room. If you went to an arcade in the '90s - or have visited any of the new ones that have popped up recently - you might've seen The Simpsons arcade beat 'em up.
In 1991, The Simspons was just finding its stride and had only entered Season 2. Seeing the potential of a sprawling franchise, Konami built the arcade game and followed the family as they tried to rescue a kidnapped Maggie from Smithers and Mr. Burns. It wasn't the most inventive storyline, but with Bart, Homer, Lisa, and Marge each having their own abilities, it's become a cult classic.
What is the Simpsons arcade machine?
Reputable arcade machine manufacturer Arcade1Up is back and brought The Simpsons to a new generation. Although the company usually limits its cabinets to two-player games, the likes of its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cabinet have offered four-player. Just like back in the day, The Simpsons has four joysticks so you and three others can pick your favourite family member and go after Maggie. If you can't find others, there's always Arcade1Up's Wi-Fi system that lets you link up with other players around the globe.
In terms of what Arcade1Up's machine packs, the cabinet has a lit marquee, an exclusive stool, 18" x 24" tin sigh, and a clear deck protector. If you're already sold and are planning on where to put the arcade machine in your living room, it's 7.8" tall and weighs around 100 pounds.
When can you buy the Simpsons arcade machine?
To celebrate the game's 30th anniversary (feeling old yet), Arcade1Up is releasing the machine. You can preorder through the Arcade1Up site and check out the rest of the company's lineup. Excitingly, the cabinet actually comes with two games. Alongside the OG version of The Simpsons, there's a bonus game that will be announced on July 15.
In terms of how much The Simpsons' arcade game will set you back, the price tag is looking like $599/£424. Arcade1Up's NBA cabinet costs $499 from GameStop, but we're hearing that The Simpsons could cost a little more.
Recently, Arcade1Up rereleased a revamp of the beloved 1992 X-Men arcade game. Playing almost identically to The Simpsons, the side-scroller brought your favourite gifted youngsters to life. With a boom in companies giving these arcade classics a new lease of life, we couldn't be happier.
As Matt Groening continues to flog The Simpsons for all it's worth, at least we know Arcade1Up's cabinet will be just as good as the game and the show was back in 1991. We can't wait to type our name in as Thrillhouse
