The Last Of Us Part II's multiplayer mode is still very much up in the air, even two years after its release date. The confirmed Factions game mode has been eagerly anticipated since the launch of the title building on the well-rounded multiplayer offering of 2013's The Last of Us.

And though we're yet to see the mode itself, some leaks have shown off some of the ideas that may yet come to fruition.

The Last Of Us Leak Unearths Ellie's Multiplayer Drip

Sheeeeeeesh.

Three models for multiplayer characters have been discovered in the code for The Last Of Us Part II, giving some indication of the progress of the mode by the time the game came out.

Content creator Speclizer discovered the files and was able to put them to use on Ellie's character model in the game's single-player mode in order to make them visible, and they're incredibly interesting.

The first outfit is a bright blue Police squad outfit, the second is a sort of riot gear a la PUBG, and the last is true juggernaut armour, with a camo print. Speclizer theorises that these are abandoned files that serve as a test for what's to come in the mode, or they'll be the outfits that are actually available to players in the finished multiplayer section.

Either way, they're an illuminating addition to the game and its long-awaited foray into multiplayer gameplay.

The Factions mode is still on the way according to Naughty Dog, and as of right now, very little is known. However, other datamines have suggested that the game will operate on a class system that players can pick and choose from. Six "backpacks" have been discovered, full of the kit for assault, melee, sniper, stealth, support and tactical classes.

Factions could technically still be a standalone title, and players have even speculated it could be its own free-to-play experience - but we won't know until we get a proper reveal. No matter what's coming, though, Naughty Dog has an incredible track record - and whatever it is, we expect it'll be special.
