The Last of Us 2 was released for the Playstation 4 in 2020 and received a Playstation 5 patch only a year later.

Despite this, a remastered version of the game seems like it may be in the works, according to one of the developers LinkedIn profiles.

A developer’s LinkedIn profile references the remastered sequel

Lead outsource artist Mark Pajarillo has been working for Naughty Dog since January 2021, however previously worked for the studio between 2012 and 2019 as an Environmental Artist.

According to Insider Gaming, the LinkedIn page reportedly said: “Responsible for overseeing the production of all outsourced environment art assets, weapons and interactive props for two iconic titles The Last of Us: Part One and The Last of Us 2: Remastered.”

The wording has since been changed to remove any reference to the remaster, suggesting that the Sony studio might not be ready for people to know about the remaster just yet.

The page now reads: “Responsible for overseeing the production of all outsourced environment art assets, weapons and interactive props for The Last of Us: Part One.”

An ‘enhanced version’ of The Last of Us 2 has been mentioned before

This isn’t the first time that an improved version of The Last of Us 2 has been mentioned.

In July this year, composer Gustavo Santaolalla let slip in an interview with Blender that an enhanced version of The Last of Us 2 is in the works.

According to Spanish language website Vandal, Santaolalla said a “new version” of The Last of Us 2 is in the works, which will let players “make [him] play certain tracks” but that he couldn’t reveal more information than that at the moment.

The news comes at an awkward time when there have recently been several layoffs at Naughty Dog and the multiplayer The Last of Us game has been put ‘on ice’.

Whether there is a remastered version of The Last of Us 2 coming or not is yet to be seen, and neither Sony or Naughty Dog have commented on its release at this stage.
