"The floor is lava." We can tell you the name of the mode, and you kinda just… get it. It's a simple enough concept, and yet, it has rocked Fortnite fans. No, it's not because Fortnite fans are predominantly children.

The limited-time mode has been reintroduced in Chapter 5 Season 2 to keep players engaged, and its silliness isn't exactly lost - that is, until you start getting a little bit serious about a throwaway LTM that was never meant to amount to much anyway.

It seems that too many are sitting forward on their sofas and locking all the way in, and players are concerned that 'sweats' are ruining the mode that was designed merely for a little bit of fun.

Players are perplexed by sweaty Fortnite Floor is Lava players

Fortnite fans have taken to Reddit to express their confusion in the increasing number of players in the new Floor is Lava LTM that are getting incredibly intense and serious about what ultimately amounts to a platforming version of the game.

"Why tf is The Floor is Lava LTM so sweaty?" asks one player in the Fortnite subreddit. "First match I play I die almost as soon as I land by a superhero skin. This proceeded to happen the rest of the matches I play. I’m not one to complain usually, but this is just ridiculous."

Players always lock in when there is an exclusive cosmetic on the line, but this is extreme. The mode has its own sprays and harvesting material, and in order to bag them, you have to complete some relatively tough challenges. Players have to work hard, or they won't end up making the most of the LTM's appearance.

Others have been quick to share their frustrations with the mode, and the sum of players willing to go too hard on it in order to claim its exclusive cosmetics. It's a repeated complaint of build modes, and while many of us stick to Zero Build in the main game, Fortnite's Floor is Lava is a building sweat-fest.

"I really dont think I have experience lobbies as sweaty as floor is lava EVER in my entire Fortnite history,” says one player. "I had someone follow me through 2 rifts just to kill me because I guess they were mad I dared try to shoot at them or something and literally every single player seems to be an expert at building."

"It's pretty bad," says another. "I just stopped playing Builds altogether a few seasons ago, because I just couldn't keep up with the sweaty build battle sh*t those kids were whipping out constantly, so it was pretty brutal to go back to that last night, but somehow even sweatier. I'll go back to clear up the challenges when they all release, but I'm definitely not looking forward to it. It's pretty rough."

It's not looking good for casual Fortnite players, which probably makes up most of its playerbase. We'd tell them to git gud if we weren't also getting rinsed and left as charred lumps on the battlefield.
