Remember when Google transformed their logo into their own version of Pac-Man, playable entirely in-browser? It’s only one example of the loving connection that Google has with gaming, allowing many developers to get involved with their Google Doodles to celebrate different events and days.

Today is no different, and it’s brought about what might be the most complex Google Doodle we’ve seen yet.

In celebration of the 2020 Olympics taking place in Japan from today, Google has released their new doodle, and it’s a full sports-themed RPG with a litany of sports-themed mini-games. The game is also peppered with anime cutscenes by Tokyo animation studio Studio 4℃, who are responsible for the art on games like Asura’s Wrath and Catherine.

In the game you play as Lucky, a Calico cat set on taking on the Champion Island games, and you’ll compete in a slew of sporting games like table tennis, skateboarding, archery and more. You’ll get in some practice before you come to take on the legendary champions of the sports, and they’re some tough enemies to beat before you become the ultimate champion.

The game has already received a lot of praise and is packed to the brim with mini-games, animal interactions and charming exploration, much more so than any other Google Doodle we’ve had yet.

How Do I Play The Google Doodle RPG?

It’s very simple - all you need to do to play this new game is go to Google and press the play icon on the new Google logo. It’s really that simple - and a whole new RPG will be right at your fingertips.

The new game is incredibly charming, and a great way to celebrate the launch of Japan’s Olympic Games from Google. Fingers crossed for an MMO in time for the Olympics 2024.
