The excitement for Tekken 8 continues to grow with Bandai Namco releasing a set of impressive trailers featuring Lili and Hwoarang.

After seeing the gameplay, a lot of the community began to wonder if the game would be released with any guest characters at launch.

In the hopes of getting an answer, a Twitter user asked Tekken 8 Game Director Katsuhiro Harada directly on Twitter and to the surprise of many, they answered.

However, the response wasn't exactly what Tekken fans were looking for and came as bad news for some.

Tekken 8 director says not to expect guest characters

On May 17, 2023, a Twitter user who has now deleted their post asked Katsuhiro Harada if Leon Kennedy and Albert Wesker from Resident Evil could be added to the game.

Unfortunately, Harada quickly shut down the idea of guest characters for the time being, claiming that there is a 'character that should be made before the guest character, so please forget about the guest character for now.'

It's clear the devs want to focus on the core Tekken roster before moving onto special or exclusive characters. This makes sense as the title is still a while away from being released, and guest characters are typically saved for DLC.

Will guest characters ever be added to Tekken 8?

So, does this mean Tekken 8 will never have any guest characters? No, not at all, as typically special characters are saved for DLC after the game has been released.

In Tekken 7, Negan from The Walking Dead, Noctis from Final Fantasy, and Geese Howard from King of Fighters were all added post-launch.

So, we expect a similar strategy in Tekken 8, but for the time being, Harada has made it clear the dev's focus is on the core characters.
