Starfield is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and this is clear from the early concurrent player numbers.

Bethesda's space RPG was released for early access on 1 September, for players who purchased or upgraded to the premium or constellation editions.

Despite the higher price tag that comes with the deluxe editions, almost 250,000 people were playing Starfield at the same time on Steam when the early access launched this morning.

Starfield is in the top six most popular games on Steam

According to SteamDB, Starfield peaked at 234,502 just two hours after the game became available in early access.

This placed Starfield in the top six games on Steam right now, placing it just below Apex Legends, PUBG, Baldur’s Gate 3, Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

These statistics are only for Steam and do not take into account the number of people playing Starfield on Xbox consoles or through the Game Pass upgrade, meaning more people will be experiencing the game than we know of.

Starfield has also proved to be very popular on Twitch, with an all-time peak of 543,234 viewers on the streaming platform.

How can you play Starfield right now?

Starfield does not fully release until 6 September, at which point it will be available on Game Pass and accessible to anyone who purchases the base game.

However, players are able to jump into the space exploration game 5 days early with the purchase of the digital premium edition or constellation edition.

Game pass users and those who have already purchased the base game on the Microsoft Store are able to upgrade to premium through the Premium Edition Upgrade. This costs ÂŁ34.99 and comes at a slightly reduced price for Game Pass users.

Whether you are planning to wait for Starfield's full release or jump into the early access, the wait is almost over.
