The Shanghai Dragons and signed Pan-seung "Fate" Koo, former main tank of the Florida Mayhem. Fate will once again reunite with long-time coach Byung-chul "Moon" Moon, who he had already played under before the start of the Overwatch League in South Korean team Mighty AOD.

Last week, the Shanghai Dragons had let go of Eui-Seok "Fearless" Lee, their main tank during season 1 and season 3 of the Overwatch League, stating that the player had expressed the wish to be able to join up with his former teammates at the Dallas Fuel. Fate steps in as a replacement for Fearless and will take over main tank duties together with Ji-won "Stand1" Seo.

Where do the Dragons go from here?

While the move appears to be a clear downgrade pound for pound, one might weigh the judgement of coach Moon against the perceived performance drop off. Shanghai's core around Overwatch League MVP Byung-sun "Fleta" Kim and rolestars Jae-won "LIP" Lee, Jun-woo "Void" Kang, and Jae-gon "LeeJaeGon" Lee is still top-shelf. That said, the arms race for many teams in the League is on with Justice, Fuel, Fusion, Shock, Dynasty, Gladiators, and more all expected to improve from last year. Additional signings to step in for the released for Min-seong "diem" Bae and Jin-hyeok "DDing" Yang will also be required. Shanghai is likely to look towards Korean contenders to rely on their excellent eye for talent.
