The eighth instalment of the Resident Evil series of games, Resident Evil Village, was revealed at the PS5 event in June 2020, and will be released in 2021 for next-gen consoles and PC, and developers Capcom have now released the much-anticipated gameplay footage in a dev video.

Resident Evil Village is set a few years after the events of the last game (Resident Evil 7: Biohazard), and Ethan appears to be free from his horrifying past and living peacefully with wife Mia. The pain is over, or so they thought.

The six-minute glimpse into the terrifying world of RE features a talking head from Director Morimasa Sato, who explains how and why Ethan is becoming more three-dimensional, as opposed to just a "player's window into the world".

As well as insight into the development and art direction of the game, the video shows us some sneak peeks of gameplay, including more creepy monsters and barren landscapes.

The events of Resident Evil Village will take place in Europe, and be played from a first-person angle, as in previous games.

The game is due for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2021.
