Although it hasn't remained at the forefront of the battle royale conversation, PUBG: Battlegrounds has been one of the most consistent titles that the genre has ever had.

Arguably leading the charge on battle royales, the game's focus on realism and truly satisfying wins has helped to make it one of the genre's staples. Winner, winner, chicken dinner, anyone?

It's that focus on realism that has been tested over the years, thanks to collaborations with Godzilla, Spider-Man, and even Neon Genesis Evangelion rubbing some players the wrong way. It looks like devs are somewhat coming back to basics by introducing bears that will rip you to shreds. Fair.

PUBG Introduces Brutal Grizzly Bears

The latest patch for PUBG has landed, and along with some bug fixes and extra features, the latest threat to players seeking their beloved chicken dinner is a big one. Now, there are bears.

Polar Bears have arrived in the snowiest portion of the map in Vikendi, and they're more than happy to pose a new threat to you and your team.

At least the stomping ground in which the bears spawn has been clearly signposted, so in many ways, if they eat you, it's on you.

Even though these bears can be killed, it might take a little effort. Helping with that, PUBG has also added a new 4x thermal scope that'll assist in identifying them if they're camouflaged by the snow.

What Else Is In The New PUBG Update?

The new 22.1 update to PUBG isn't just packing bears. It has also brought the return of aurora borealis in Moonlight mode.

There's also the aforementioned 4x thermal scope, new weapon balancing, and another season of ranked. Everything included in the update can be found in a blog post on the PUBG website.

The update is exciting as all hell, especially if you love getting ripped to bits by bears. If you're into that, then this is a big day for you. Either way, they aren't like the bears you'll find in the Coca-Cola advert.
