Portal Movie 'Is Still Happening' Claims J.J. Abrams
It's time to dive down the rabbit hole (or in this case, orange box), as famed American film director J.J. Abrams has revealed that a Portal movie is still in the works. If we suspend our disbelief for a moment (I'm still waiting for that cake), then this could mean big things for the Valve masterpiece.
It's been almost eight years since we were first made aware of the movie, as well as a Half-Life adaptation. The legend himself, Gabe Newell, sat on stage with J.J. at the DICE Summit and discussed the project - with the former stating that the plans were “as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets.”
What's The Latest News On The Portal Movie?
The latest information came at a press day for the release of Super 8’s 4K Blu-ray, with Abrams saying: “We actually do have a script that’s being written for the Portal movie now at [Warner Bros.]. We’re really excited about the take and the pitch, so it feels like that thing’s finally on the rails.”
He added: “It’s got enormous potential for a lot of reasons, one of which is because of the limited narrative of the game, as ingeniously told as it is, the potential of it is so huge. It’s gonna be super fun.”
When Will The Portal Movie Come Out?
Sadly, we don't know. Any fan of the games will tell you that the essence of Portal is its humour. Which means that this will have to be translated onto the silver screen. We've seen movie adaptations of games go brilliantly, while others haven't been as well-received (cough, DOOM, cough). With Portal being so close to many gamers' hearts, this movie will have to make sure that they get it right.
So who knows, maybe we'll be waiting for another eight years?
