Things are "clicking" into place for HBO's The Last of Us series, as Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal settle into their roles as Ellie and Joel. Naughty Dog's gaming masterpiece is coming to life on the small screen, with the acclaimed survival horror finding a new lease of life.

Horror games like DOOMResident Evil, and even House of the Dead have all had their own lacklustre live-action adaptations, but with The Last of Us, things are looking promising. From the network that gave us Game of Thrones and the showrunner that gave us Chernobyl, there are high hopes that The Last of Us series could be as big as the world Neil Druckmann created

What Do Ellie And Joel Look Like In The Last Of Us?

When it comes to The Last of Us, filming is still underway in Calgary, Canada. The show has been filmed exclusively in Canada, which serves as a replacement for the game's setting of Austin, Texas. With HBO being slow on the uptake when it comes to giving us official footage or even promo shots, it's been up to sleuthy paparazzi to give us a glimpse of what's going on.

Twitter account @NaughtyDogInfo has given us our best look at the Thrones alumni together on the set of The Last of Us. Namely, we see a grizzled Pascal as the father figure of Joel, while Ramsey looks like a game-accurate Ellie. Capturing the look of Joel was always going to be easy (just cast a guy with a beard), but in terms of Ellie, fans will be happy to see Ramsey is a dead ringer for the young heroine.

If that wasn't enough, the set photo also shows off two unnamed actors who seem to be playing Sam and Henry. In 2013's The Last of Us, Sam is a 13-year-old survivor from Connecticut, who is accompanied by Henry - his older brother. We're guessing the scene in question is when the group tries to scavenge Pittsburgh and is attacked by a group of hunters.

When Is The Last Of Us Coming Out?

With a first real look at Ellie and Joel, viewers were over the moon that Craig Mazin is seemingly sticking close to the source material. One fan wrote, "Wow! An actor that's accurate to how the game character looks!" Another added, "My boy Joel ready to kill some clickers." There were the usual grumbles that Hugh Jackman should've played Joel, but come on, get over it.

All in all, it seems unofficial photos are the best we'll get for now. HBO was previously criticised for releasing a promo shot that simply showed the back of Pascal and Ramsey's heads - looking like it was pulled directly from a game. It was always too good to be true to hope we'd see The Last of Us in 2022. It was only recently that the head of HBO confirmed the series has been pushed into 2023. When The Last of Us eventually releases, we're hoping it lives up to its own hype.
