It took a while, but Modern Warfare 3 has finally broken the mould that the Ranked playlist must adhere to and abide by every single rule in the professional Call of Duty League.

Instead, we've seen Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch combine with the CDL to become a testing ground for how the competitive game can advance and thrive.

Hot off the back of the map playtest, which ended up seeing Vista and 6 Star added to the map pool, Modern Warfare 3 is out there testing new weapons for Ranked, too. Safe to say, it's already raising eyebrows.

Modern Warfare 3 Ranked to hold weapon tests to shake the meta

The Modern Warfare 3 Ranked meta has become stale, as the MCW and Rival-9 have been dominant all year round, w only being impregnated by the WSP-Swarm after both guns were hit with nerfs.

But in one special week starting on April 16, the developers are adding five more weapons to the Ranked pool, unvaulting three Assault Rifles and two SMGs.

For the ARs, the BP50 (the Season 3 futuristic BAL gun), Holger 556, and MTZ-556 will all become unlocked, despite having been previously banned in the competitive playlists for having a headshot multiplayer that proved too severe for competitive integrity.

In the SMG pool, both DLC guns, the HRM-9 and RAM-9, are being added. Players might remember the HRM-9 being in the mode for a short while after being released but was soon removed.

If any of these guns appear viable for competitive play, there's a strong chance that they will stay unlocked and available for Ranked and the CDL.

New Ranked guns already strike fear into MW3 players

Straight after the announcement from the Call of Duty developers, players quickly found out just how brutal the BP50 is, as the weapon shoots straight lasers.

As pointed out by "MoCryptic", the BP50 has an incredible fire rate and next-to-no recoil, which rip through the dummies in the firing range with ease, making real opponents shudder.

"There's 0 way they thought this MCW & RIVAL 9 fusion was a good idea to put in ranked lmao," one scared player said on Twitter.

Other fans are still worrying about the WSP-Swarm, though, as it's only about time that we see it come out in the CDL in the right hands.

The playtest appears to be staying for an entire week, finishing on April 23, which is plenty of time for the meta to completely shift.
