The Wickverse is booming, and safe to say, we've come a long way from Alfie Allen's dodgy accent as a Russian gangster in 2014's John Wick. Even though Chad Stahelski has stopped short of confirming John Wick 5, that hasn't stopped him from conjuring up an A-list cast for the mythical sequel.

Over the years, we've seen a galaxy of stars grace the John Wick franchise, with everyone from Laurence Fishburne to Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane to Halle Berry finding a place. 2023's John Wick: Chapter 4 added Bill Skarsgard, Donnie Yen, and Rina Sawayama to the mix, but who's next?

Who does Chad Stahelski want to cast in John Wick 5?

Discussing all things Wick with The Direct, Stahelski revealed who he'd like to brush shoulders with Keanu Reeves in the inevitable John Wick 5. Saying there's a "huge list" of names he'd love to bring into this world, there are several megastars he highlighted in particular.

"The first thing that came to mindset was Cillian Murphy. I'm a big 'Peaky Blinders' fan. So, you know, I just think Cillian would fit right in," said Stahelski. We can definitely see the Dark Knight trilogy favourite playing a brooding villain.

"Colin Farrell is fantastic. Charlize Theron when she did 'Atomic Blonde,' I saw that went, 'Oh my God, I gotta work with this woman," added Stahelski. "She's awesome. I worked with Michelle Yeoh way back on a commercial years ago, and I've been dying to work with her ever since. I'm such a huge fan."

Stahelski also gave the nod to Lovecraft Country's Jurnee Smollett, as well as MCU star Robert Downey Jr.: "There's a lot, I mean, there are so many great people out there, man. If Robert Downey happened to sit in my chair right here, I'd figure that one out"

Finally, Game of Thrones alumni Peter Dinklage and Sean Bean, with Stahelski concluding, "Some of those guys I think are magical. I'd die for a chance with any of those people."

Will there be a John Wick 5?

Despite THAT big ending, the idea of passing on John Wick 5 seems like a ridiculous notion right now. As well as a franchise-topping opening, the fourth movie smashed records for R-rated movies for the first time since the pandemic started. It also marks the start of the franchise spinning out into other stories.

There's the Continental miniseries starring Mel Gibson and The Ballerina movie set between the events of the third and fourth movies, but even as we move away from Johnny, we can't see the franchise leaving its main man out of the limelight for long.

Stahelski told The Hollywood Reporter how he'll let Reeves' character "rest," adding, "I'm sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves it and it goes kooky, then we’ll take a quiet minute." Don't expect John Wick 5 to shoot its way into cinemas next year, however, the idea of an Atomic Blonde crossover sounds like a licence to print money.
