Deadpool 3 tipped to star Channing Tatum as Gambit
Hoping he's playing his cards right, could Channing Tatum finally get to fulfil his legacy and play the fan-favourite Gambit from the X-Men? Ryan Reynolds is once again suiting up as the Merc with a Mouth, and as expected, Deadpool 3 is bringing some A-list talent on board.
Alongside the titular Deadpool, the cast brings back Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Jennifer Garner's Elektra (for some reason), as well as new roles for Succession's Matthew Macfadyen and The Crown's Emma Corrin. With another Multiversal adventure on the cards, there's a chance Channing Tatum could finally play Gambit.
Channing Tatum rumoured to play Gambit in Deadpool 3
According to DeadpoolUpdate, Joel Adrien has been listed as Channing Tatum's double in Deadpool 3. This seemingly confirms the rumour that the Magic Mike actor will be playing Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, in Shawn Levy's upcoming threequel.
It's important to note that this is far from confirmation Gambit will appear in Deadpool 3. As IMDb can be edited by anyone, it's not exactly a trusted source when it comes to castings. This is far from the first time we've been misled by IMDb, so don't count on Channing Tatum playing Gambit just yet.
Still, there's plenty of hype about Tatum's potential involvement. "He's definitely gonna be Gambit, him and Ryan are BFFs," cheered one, while another added, "F**k yes this is the best of all possible nerd worlds." A third concluded, "Not surprised. He low 🔑 makes so many cameos. That would be 🔥."
What's Channing Tatum's Gambit history?
Although Gambit sat out Fox's mainline X-Men movies, the maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine cast Taylor Kitsch as the smooth-talking Frenchman. Some have said they'd love to see Kitsch return to play Gambit in Deadpool 3, but the inclusion of Tatum makes more sense considering his friendship with Reynolds.
Way back when, Fox was supposed to expand its world of X-Men movies, with the likes of Kitty Pryde and Multiple Man movies being shown the door. One of the biggest projects that never came to realisation was the Tatum-led Gambit.
Interestingly, Gambit was supposed to appear in 2003's X2 (played by stunt actor James Bamford) but had his cameo cut. After Tatum was unable to play the character in X-Men Origins, a standalone Gambit movie was announced in 2014 but fell into development hell. If Tatum is cast, his tenure as Gambit has been a long time coming.
