How Is Wolverine In Deadpool 3?
The Clawed Canadian is back, and in a shocking announcement many thought we'd never see, Hugh Jackman is officially returning to play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joining Ryan Reynolds for the cast of Deadpool 3, Jackman is ready to flex his muscles all over again.
Back in 2017, James Mangold's Logan seemingly rounded off the story of Wolverine - a role that Jackman held since 2000's X-Men. No spoilers here, but given how the noir superhero hybrid gave Wolverine a pretty definitive end, most of us are rightly asking, how is Wolverine in Deadpool 3?
When Is Deadpool 3 Set?
You all thought he was done, didn't you? The X-Men movies have never been afraid to dabble with time travel, and you might remember when Wolverine went back into his old consciousness to prevent the grim fate of mutantkind in X-Men: Days of Future Past. This erased most of the events of the original X-Men trilogy and gave us a neat way to give Famke Janssen's Jean Grey her happy ending.
It's not been confirmed whether Deadpool 3 will continue in this timeline or head somewhere new, but remember, the MCU has its own golden goose in the form of the Multiverse. 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced us to Earth-838, which has a shady cabal known as the Illuminati. It just so happens one of its members was Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier - who starred alongside Jackman in the Fox's X-Men franchise.
Even though we know Deadpool is coming to the MCU in some form, most assume he's in a separate reality to the Earth-616 that's contained the first four phases of the MCU that started with 2008's Iron Man. Whether Deadpool and Wolverine are from Earth-838, somewhere else, or are drawn together across two realities, there are more questions than answers right now. We're calling it though, the pair will find themselves alongside the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange and Tom Holland's Spider-Man before the credits roll.
Will Hugh Jackman Return After Deadpool 3?
Given the surprising (and secretive) nature of his MCU debut in Deadpool 3, there's no news on whether this is a one-and-done adventure or Jackman will be squeezing into the yellow and black spandex for a more full-time return. Remember that we're building towards a live-action Avengers: Secret Wars movie for Phase 6 in 2025.
Wolverine has a small part to play in the Secret Wars arc from 1984, which served as a crossover to sell toys. More likely, we'll see a fusion between this and the much bigger Secret Wars of 2015 that helped fold the Ultimate Marvel comics into the mainline Marvel canon. Either way, there's definitely scope for Jackman to come back (again) as Wolverine.
Excitingly, having Hugh back on board gives hope to fan-favourites Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlet Johannson, reprising their roles as Iron Man and Black Widow. While we're at it, why not nab Ben Affleck as Daredevil, Wesley Snipes as Blade, and a bit more of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man? If Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, anyone can return.
Is There A Deadpool 3 Trailer?
Considering Deadpool 3 has only just been given the green light from Reynolds, there isn't a full trailer. We got a cute announcement stinger that made a pun out of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" by adding Hugh to the title, and since then, there's been an assault of marketing ahead of the Deadpool 3 release date of September 6, 2024.
How Is Wolverine In Deadpool 3?
Although some thought Reynolds and Jackman were joking at first, the pair seem to be telling the truth. A follow-up video trolled us all by promising it would answer your questions about how is Wolverine in Deadpool 3, but thanks to lip reading expert on Twitter called @Jomboy, we can decipher some of it. Aside from describing a generic fight, they say "we're in our prime," suggesting this isn't in the Old Man Logan timeline of Logan.
We're likely still a long way off from a Deadpool 3 trailer, but with Jackman now locked into the Deadpool 3 cast, expect to find out more. As well as the expected returns of Zazie Beetz and Josh Brolin in their respective roles as Domino and Cable, we're excited to see what other X-Men alumni could be joining Jackman and Reynolds. We're just hoping for more of Rebecca Romijn's Mystique.
