Giving us all "claws" for thought, Ryan Reynolds has just confirmed Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Deadpool 3. It's the announcement no one saw coming, but as Deadpool prepares to make his official MCU debut, it looks like he'll have a familiar face in tow.

While Jackman last played the clawed Canadian for 2017's Logan, James Mangold's noir superhero movie was supposed to round off the character's arc that started in 2000's X-Men. However, just like Patrick Stewart wheeled back into action as Charles Xavier for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Jackman has seemingly been dragged back to his iconic role for Deadpool 3.

Will Hugh Jackman Return As Wolverine In Deadpool 3

Posting on Twitter, Reynolds confirmed he's pulled a blank on how to move forward with Deadpool 3, saying: "Hey everyone, we're extremely sad to have missed D23, but we've been working very hard on the next 'Deadpool' film for a good long while now."

Reynolds and Jackman are BFFs in real life, and as the Aussie actor walks through the shot, Reynolds asks if he wants to play Wolverine one more time. A reluctant Jackman then agrees to seal the deal. Reminding us that Deadpool's MCU arrival needs to feel special, getting Jackman on the cast list is one way to do it.

Cue Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" with the message "I will always love Hugh." The teaser ends with a stinger that reads "Coming Hughn" and a release date. It remains to be seen if this is a typically Reynolds-esque prank, but by the looks of it, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine return has been locked in.

What Is The Deadpool 3 Release Date?

With everything from Blade to the much-hyped Fantastic Four reboot currently on the MCU docket, Deadpool 3 has filled one of those mysterious slots on the Marvel roster. Deadpool 3 is confirmed for September 6, 2024 with Reynolds once again playing the Merc with a Mouth. You might have two years to wait, but with Jackman on board, it'll be worth it.
