Put on your tinfoil hats because it's time to board the hype train for another wild Grand Theft Auto 6 rumour. It's hard to believe it's been seven years since Grand Theft Auto 5 came out and went on to become the highest-grossing entertainment product of all time. It's baffling to think the game is still going strong - thanks in part to Grand Theft Auto Online. It's in GTA Online's latest update that fans think they've got their first real hint of GTA 6

Although it was always going to be inevitable that we'd eventually get Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar Games has been keeping its cards close to its chest. Despite a slew of rumours and claims we'll be returning to Vice City for GTA 6, it's important to remember Rockstar hasn't even officially announced it yet. Still, that hasn't stopped us hunting high and low for even the tiniest breadcrumb of what's to come.

What is the GTA 6 teaser?

Rockstar has kept GTA Online ticking along with its various heists, and it's in the latest Cayo Perico Heist that some think we've had our first real tease of GTA 6. In a trailer titled "surveil.exe", there's some grainy surveillance footage of a body lying by a beach alongside a briefcase. It might look like there's nothing much to see here, but others have noted the coordinates along the bottom of the screen. Video games are no stranger to Easter eggs, and Rockstar could be onto a winner with this one.

Putting “38.527A N; 79.6129A W" in Google Maps comes up with an actual location that is either a major coincidence or something more. Posting on Twitter, @Welltest789 wrote, "The only job I had was to get the exact coordinate, get each image square from the G-Maps and reassemble the entire image, making the image look better". What you get is a winding road in Virginia that seems to spell out the Roman numerals for six in the form of a VI. The GTA games are known for using this style of numbering in their titles, which has sparked the latest rumours.

What does the GTA 6 teaser mean?

Aside from our first real hint that Rockstar really is working on GTA 6, is there much else to go off? The series tends to stick to fictionalisied versions of US cities, but it's doubtful the woods of Virginia is going to be the setting of the next game. Ultimately, it is probably just developers cashing in on their own hype. Barely a week goes by without there being some sort of GTA 6 rumour, meaning Rockstar is right to make the most of this ravenous fandom.

That being said, with the Cayo Perico Heist trailer giving us a potential GTA 6 teaser, it could mean there are more hidden secrets lurking in the background of the online event. With the Cayo Perico Heist coming to Grand Theft Auto Online on December 15, we'll have to keep our eyes peeled to see if Rockstar is finally making moves on Grand Theft Auto 6 or whether we're being led on a merry dance. Either way, well played Rockstar, well played.
