Fancy swapping your samurai sword for a Leviathan axe? Well, that's exactly what Jin Sakai is doing in the Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut. More than just letting you pet cats and monkeys, the Iki Island expansion delivers a whole new host of quests for the sword-swinging saviour to slice his way through.

If you look hard enough, you might also be able to spot a nod to a very different "ghost" thanks to a God of War crossover for the ages.

While Kratos legend as the Ghost of Sparta might seem a million miles away from Jin's mission, there's a God of War questline that will also gift players some pretty snazzy rewards.

What is the secret God of War quest in Ghost of Tsushima?

With both God of War and Ghost of Tsushima being PlayStation exclusives, the two realms aren't actually that far away from each other. Both include a brutal and stoic lead who is trying to make the world a better place, and while we don't imagine Jin Sakai and Kratos would be best buds, we don't know who'd be more likely to win in a fight.

As we explore Iki Island, eagle-eyed players have spotted the secret God of War questline. Much more than just a subtle Easter egg, you'll also walk away with some special God of War armour for Jin. Firstly, you'll need to find the Shrine of Ash.

Here, players will find a white tree with an axe embedded in it. Added to this, there's a golden handprint, which is a not-so-subtle nod to Kratos and his signature weapon from 2018's God of War reboot.

This isn't the only instance of Kratos and Jin's worlds merge in a crossover for the ages. Also, at the Shrine of Ash, there are chains and a scroll that retell the story of Kratos and Atreus from the game. However, the real takeaway is the gesture-based puzzle and the reward you can earn from cracking the code.

What is the reward from the God of War quest?

Firstly, you'll want to visit the Shrine of Ash in your Sakai Clan armour. Swiping right on your controller touchpad will make Jin unsheath his katana - which should trigger a cutscene. Jin will be covered in ash, and when the scene ends, his armour will have been transformed into a new variant that looks like Kratos' red and white theme.

You can now make the most of your Helm of War headpiece, Spartan facemask, and Ghost of Sparta colour palette. The set has previously appeared in Ghost of Tsushima, however, it was only an outfit selection in the Legends multiplayer mode's Samurai class.

Elsewhere, you might be able to spot a cave painting that immortalises Sucker Punch's Sly Cooper. The cameos don't end there. There's a special Bloodborne quest at the Blood-Stained Shrine, and finally, the Shrine in Shadow shrine is there to honour Shadow of the Colossus.

Ghost of Tsushima homages other Sony superstars including Gran Turismo and Ratchet and Clank if you know where to look, however, dressing as Kratos is our new favourite thing to do.
