Genshin Impact Player Suing Developer Over New Character
Genshin Impact’s fanbase is deeply dedicated. They’re also a bit intense. The free-to-play MMORPG has garnered a wave of fans that are hooked on its infectious gameplay, but there are some who are more than willing to call out Genshin for its mistakes.
Now, one of these gamers is threatening to take the game to court over the title’s new character. No, really, there are documents and everything to prove that this is one peeved player who wants to take developer miHoYo to the cleaners.
Why are players furious about a new character addition?
Genshin Impact introduced a new character to the game recently, to a flurry of excitement and frustration in equal measure. Raiden Shogun is the latest addition to Genshin, and was expected to work alongside the existing character Beidou - another hero with electrical abilities. This dynamic duo was supposed to complement each other nicely, as suggested by a few beta leaks and early footage. In the run-up to Raiden Shogun's release, fan excitement grew rampant.
Many fans spent their money and gambled on bagging the new character based on this alone, assuming that the character pairing would be coming to the game and offer fans a new way to play. You can see where this is going.
Raiden and Beidou don’t collaborate at all. In fact, they’re one of the game’s few pairings that, frankly, have no connective elements.
Fans are unhappy, as you can imagine, but few are as intense as one who is now threatening miHoYo with legal action.
Genshin Impact Fan Threatens To Sue Developers
One Genshin Impact player is taking their outrage to a new level by threatening miYoHo with a lawsuit. They aired their frustrations with the new character’s applications in-game on the official miYoHo boards, suggesting that fans have been misled. Along with this, they shared a photo of their law license, near proving that they’re willing to take their frustrations to court. Blimey.
Considering Genshin did so well at hyping the Electro Archon and ruler of Inazuma, the debut of the new 5-star seems to be a tool of his own undoing. The photograph of a confirmation page includes a case number and phone number for the Shanghai Xuhui District People’s Court Case Filing Division and Prosecution Center, suggesting this is the real deal.
The court has seven days to respond to the filing, so we should know soon. Whether or not this anger sees the courtroom remains to be seen - but chances are, Genshin Impact will be a little more careful with what they imply about new features in the future at the very least.
