Every now and again, gamers who have grown bored with the current titles on offer will go up to the loft and dust down their archives of nostalgic consoles and games in order to get a blast from the past.

Whilst some may opt for a PlayStation 1, or a SEGA Mega Drive, many of us will fumble to the bottom of the box to grab a Game Boy to revisit the early Donkey Kong games, and Pokemon Gold and Silver.

Now, it appears that the box might be able to be fastened up forever and shipped off to CeX, as Nintendo could be making a compatibility system that allows old Game Boy titles to be playable on the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Rumoured To Be Announcing Game Boy Emulators For Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch users will be familiar with the online subscription that allows access to a selection of NES and SNES titles to be played on Switch. Many retro titles like Super Marios Bros. 3 can already be re-played on Switch through this emulator, and one leaker thinks that Game Boy and Game Boy Colour instalments could soon follow.

Insider "NateDrake" spoke on his podcast "Nate the Hate", in which he revealed a 2019 datamine found four of these similar emulators will be deployed, one of those which will be Game Boy.

This would allow Nintendo Switch to run the likes of the original Tetris, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, and hidden gems like Metal Gear Solid on Nintendo Switch.

Whilst much of the conversation was speculative, NateDrake also admitted that he would expect an announcement soon, possibly before the year ends and ready for the festive season.

The leaker claimed that he believes the whilst two of the four emulators have been taken up by NES and SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Colour will run on the same server, leaving one further option open to Nintendo.

As to what the fourth could be, he guesses that Game Boy Advance could be the final handheld iteration to be reborn, although this would be considerably harder for the franchise as many of the games have already been remastered.

So, it might finally be a good time to cash in on those retro goldmines you're sitting on, as Nintendo could be revamping them, especially for the Switch Online service.
