Ah Pride Month, the 30 days of the year that corporations aren't afraid to get out the rainbow-coloured paintbrush and splash their logo with a Pride flag - only to quickly change it back on July 1. It's a running joke that this is the case, and the gaming industry is no different.

Extending the cause more than most, Epic Games has confirmed that the Fortnite Rainbow Royale Pride event will be making its return. If you jumped off the Pride float-themed Battle Bus last year, you'll know Epic celebrated its LGBTQ+ community of content creators and players with a host of free items.

Fortnite Rainbow Royale: When Is It Back?

Posting on the official Fortnite account, Epic confirmed Rainbow Royale will be proudly waving its Pride flag for LGBTQ+ diversity. First appearing in Chapter 2 Season 7, Rainbow Royale is back and bigger than ever. As well as the same free cosmetics that appeared in the shop last year, there's a new crop of freebies for you to add to your wardrobe.

Although Rainbow Royale isn't returning until September, the Fortnite item shop today (June 15) has last year's Rainbow Royale items for nothing. The following appeared in the shop last July, but are back for the princely sum of zero V-Bucks:

  • Take a Bow emote
  • Sunshine and Rainbows wrap
  • Vibrant Boogie spray
  • Vibrant Heart spray
  • Vibrant Llama spray
  • Vibrant Star spray

All of the above will be in the shop between now and June 16th at 8 PM ET. We'd suggest you grab them while you can because in all likelihood, this is the last time you'll be able to nab 2021's Rainbow Royale items.

What's New For Rainbow Royale In 2022?

Epic hasn't confirmed what's new to Rainbow Royale in 2022 or give us a full release date for exactly when in September is coming. Still, it's expected to be similar to last year's where you log in to get free rewards over seven days. Fortnite most recently did this with Winterfest. Rainbow Royale previously included tracks from the likes of Lil Nas X and Kim Petras, so again, there will probably be a Pride-themed playlist.

Elsewhere, Rocket League is holding its own Rocket League Pride celebration from June 15 until July 12. There will be music from LGBTQ+ performers including Trixie Mattel, Adore Delano, Conchita Wurst, and Todrick Hall. Finally, you can pick up the Rocket League Shine Through Bundle, which is available for free for the entire month. Even though we're halfway through Pride month, it's great to see gaming companies like Microsoft and Epic Games are showing their pride in the LGBTQ+ community.
