After what felt like a lifetime of Peter Griffin jokes and ignoring that Peely had been kidnapped, Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 is finally over, and the era of mythology is here.

The long-rumoured historical season has been massively exciting for fans so far, even in spite of some pretty hefty downtime. As fans finally get involved, it's working a treat for fans who are taking the road less paid and those who are willing to shell out for the battle pass.

But players have noticed one thing that they're not particularly thrilled about: complaints that we've been short-changed on the Chapter 5 Season 2 skins.

Fans call out "nerfed" Fortnite skins

When gamers call out a "nerfed" character design, it usually boils down to uncomfortable sexual connotations, thankfully, Fortnite fans are being a little less odd this time around. Their concerns with skin designs actually seem pretty fair.

Taking to the Fortnite subreddit, one user has compared the Battle Pass skins (which, compared to recent seasons, have been pretty exciting) to the limited focus group concept art for them - and they're, admittedly, quite different.

Hades has especially leapt out at fans, with his armour once upon a time being defined by darkness to keep up the shine of its gold plating. His new look being predominantly grey accentuated with a relatively dull deep red colour.

It's a missed opportunity, but skins do naturally have to undergo a redesign process to suit the rest of the season and the world of the game. Fans aren't so happy to take substitutions.

Players aren't convinced that the changes are fair (or even made sense), so they've taken to the Fortnite subreddit to express their frustrations. "I feel like his helmet had a much more unique design in the concept art," says one user. "Now it kinda just looks like another one of the fortknight skins."

"Holy s***, The 3D models are very generic compared to the original concept art," adds another. "So much work for nothing. Perhaps layoffs in the games industry lead to this, the poor execution of ideas coming from less experienced artists."

Fortnite is usually pretty good at keeping the skin market feeling fresh, but it seems as though this season's offerings aren't doing it for players. And given that the item shop is keeping Fortnite afloat, that could be a problem.
