We hope Epic Games has been paying the bill because It sounds like E.T. could be ready to phone home all over again. Fortnite is known for its weird and wonderful crossovers with everything from Marvel to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but at its core, it always tells its own original story.

As the sun sets on the mythological-themed Chapter 5 Season 2, all eyes are looking ahead at what comes next. Although we heard about a potential apocalypse-themed season in the vein of Mad Max, those leaks are far from gospel. Now, fans think Epic Games is teasing another alien invasion for Chapter 5 Season 3.

Epic Games teases aliens for Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3

Aliens are nothing new to Fortnite, and we don't just mean thanks to Xenomorphs and the Predator appearing in the shop. Cast your minds back to Chapter 2 Season 7, when we looked to the skies and saw those bulbous-headed dudes flying toward us.

Several Fortnite accounts have been posting the same picture of Human Bill, while a recent update added an alien graffiti wrap that was encrypted for some reason. On the FortniteBR subreddit, u/duskyxlops noticed several other potential alien teases, including an alien-inspired target dummy and a deluge of telescopes.

News of a potential alien invasion has blown up on the subreddit, with one fan cheering, "It's the goddamn time for the aliens to return." Another added, "Best season of all time again? Hell yes," and a third said, "Let's hope so, this season's Percy Jackson from Wish shit sucked a**."

So what about the supposed Mad Max season? We know Anya Taylor-Joy is heading up Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga on May 24, but to hinge a whole season around that seems a bit like overkill. The rumours have gone into overdrive after noted leaker HYPEX claimed there would be a new ability to hijack vehicles from enemies.

As we edge closer to Chapter 5 Season 2's proposed May 24 end (notice Furiosa's release date), it definitely seems like we're teasing aliens rather than apocalyptic racing. Then again, it's possible some extra-terrestrials could be about to nuke the battlefield à la Warzone, leaving the remnants of society to take over for some vehicular mayhem.

Epic Games might be quick but the dataminers are quicker. Even if we'll have to wait a little longer to see what the team is cooking up for Chapter 5 Season 3, we're more than ready for another close encounter...of the third kind.
