From Bandage Bazookers to Boogie Bombs, Icy Grapplers to Boom Bows, there have been some weird and wonderful additions to the Fortnite arsenal. Each season comes with a new crop of weapons to get your hands on, and away from the usual revamped shotguns, pistols, and machine guns, there are always some bizarre season additions.

In Chapter 3 Season 2, we've had the long-awaited return of lightsabers for the Star Wars-themed May 4 event, and it's got us thinking, why aren't there more melee weapons in Fortnite? If it wasn't for lightsabers (although they're going soon), that classic Pickaxe is your only melee weapon in the battle royale favourite. Well, that might not be for long.

Are Melee Weapons Coming To Fortnite?

The recent Emicida concerts let us get to grips with a new sword, and apparently, it could lead to a more permanent addition of melee weapons in the main Battle Royale mode. Remember that Fortnite weapons tend to appear in Battle Royale before being added to Creative. If that wasn't enough, there was a Melee Manager device that was leaked early.

Fortnite fan @cookybitz suggests that the Melee Manager could be added with the next update - suggesting that swords and other handheld weapons could be just around the corner. As pointed out by Sportskeeda, prominent leaker iFireMonkey previously delved deep into the game files and found six melee weapons.

Although the leak was back in January, it claimed a Basic Spear, Sledgehammer, Fireman Axe, Medieval Sword, Molten Sword, and Ninja Sword would all be on the way. We'd love to see a Medieval Sword come into play, and while you're at it, why not bring back the fan-favourite Colosseum POI? It's interesting to note the sword from the Emicida event looks a lot like the Medieval Sword, so we might be on the money with this one.

When Could We See Melee Weapons In Fortnite?

Bearing in mind, this isn't the first time we've seen melee weapons other than your standard Harvesting Tool. The Sideways Scythe was a powerful addition to Chapter 2 Season 8. Other than that, Thor's Stormbreaker appeared in the Endgame LTM, we had the Amban Sniper Rifle's melee attack for the Mandalorian-themed Chapter 2 Season 5, and a Kingsman-inspired umbrella for Spy Games.

Normally, melee weapons have come with some sort of gimmick that ties into the latest pop culture crossover. Much like how the shop rotates skins, melee weapons are never around for long. In a game that has so many different variants of other weapons, it's disappointing that melee options aren't more of a permanent fixture. The Primal season famously added bows to the meta, and with Chapter 3 Season 3 just around the corner, we'll have to wait and see what revamp Epic has in store.
