Many Call of Duty fans might have skipped over Blackout. The Black Ops 4 add-on was the start of the franchise's battle royale story that is now heading into the Warzone 2 chapter and played a pivotal role in defining how a CoD BR should function.

Featuring a range of multiplayer maps smashed into one royal rumble, Blackout was known for being let down by a slow-paced game which required a bit too much looting, and was partially ruined by poor NPC choices.

However, the map itself was never to be faulted, and with a few tweaks, fans now want it to make a return.

Fans Call For Blackout To Return

We all know how asking for battle royale maps to return goes, given that Verdansk is on its way back but only via mobile, but that doesn't mean fans can't dream, and now they're wishing for Blackout's repeat.

Given that it wasn't free to play, and was only embedded into Black Ops 4, fans have taken to social media to plead that it feature in Warzone 2 down the line, possibly in 2024.

Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 have already been confirmed to feature swimming mechanics, which could make it easier for players to operate through the map, especially around Nuketown, Hijacked, and Hydro Dam.

"It looks better than Caldera!" one fan said, with another adding, "It was better than Verdansk too. That map was so fun". Blackout clearly had many devoted fans to hold it in such high regard.

Many people added that they would love to play an updated version of Blackout, although with Infinity Ward taking over for the next two years, it was going to be quite unlikely. IW already have a resurgence map and another BR map in store for 2023, although when Treyarch take back over in 2024, who knows what they have in store?

Maybe, with a Modern Warfare engine and movement, and a Treyarch map and weapon design, we could be only for a perfect medley of Call of Duty action. Wouldn't it make sense?
