After 36 years of Zelda games, you might think Nintendo is struggling with ways to keep the franchise fresh. Instead, 2023's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is proving there's plenty of life left in the Deku Tree.

Poised to be up there with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Starfield as one of the year's biggest games, Tears of the Kingdom is the much-anticipated sequel to 2017's Breath of the Wild. In case you need another reason to buy, Tears of the Kingdom has an incredible pre-order bonus.

What is the Tears of the Kingdom pre-order bonus?

As revealed by game insider Wario64, Tears of the Kingdom has a bizarre (but brilliant) pre-order bonus that includes a silver fork and spoon.

Don't ask us why there's a fork and spoon with Tears of the Kingdom, but to be honest, we're totally here for it. If you're dashing to place your pre-order, be warned that this particular bonus only appears to be available in Japan. Still, expect the set to go for a ludicrous sum being resold eBay.

Ordering the standard version from Amazon in Japan gets you the spoon, while ordering the more expensive Collector's Edition gifts the fork and spoon set. If you're already sold, there's disappointment that the Collector's Edition already looks like it's sold out on Amazon.

Loving the pre-order bonuses, one fan wrote, "At least I can eat good while I play," while another added, "To be fair, missed opportunity to include a knife that looks like the Master Sword." Someone else pointed out it's similar to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet having a similar fork and spoon set.

Tears of the Kingdom has a tonne of bizarre pre-order bonuses

This isn't the end of Nintendo's inventive pre-order bonuses. If you order from GameStop, you can get a limited-edition wooden plaque. To claim, you must head to a store and show your receipt to redeem. Elsewhere, ordering from the Nintendo Store in the UK gets you a commemorative coin and a luggage tag.

Pre-order differences are a big deal, so remember when fans were furious that Scarlet and Violet came with a steelbook in the UK and those in the US were left with an in-game backpack. Whatever Nintendo's reasoning, the Tears pre-orders are the talk of Hyrule.

With Nintendo hiking the price of Zelda, at least those in Japan are getting more bang for their Yen. Coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch on May 12 means you'd better get your Tears of the Kingdom pre-orders in while you can.
