While Fortnite's third-person over-the-shoulder gunplay has always been received well by fans, a big win is the fact its aim assist is surprisingly toned-down in comparison to other games like Call of Duty. But this is all about to change.

Fortnite's ever-changing weapon pool is about to get one of its most ambitious new guns yet. Despite its junior status, the new Lock On Pistol is rivalling the Lightsaber, Drum Gun, and the OG Pump Shotgun as the most overpowered item of all time.

Epic Games has now released a new 'Lock On Pistol' into Fortnite, and it does exactly what it says on the tin.  Akin to some form of aircraft-destroying Rocket Launcher, this pistol physically locks onto an enemy, tracking their movement and hitting 100% accurate shots with a three-round burst.

Basically offering out aimbot, the Lock On Pistol's only snag is that it takes roughly three seconds to charge and has a weapon glint that can be detected by enemies once the charging is activated.

Still, it bursts out 90 damage to any enemy, which can either serve as the perfect opening engagement tool or a finessed way of finishing off a weaker target.

Fortnite community split on new Lock On Pistol

The Fortnite Lock On Pistol has massively split opinions in the community, with many appreciating the gun's fun element, while others realise that it can be completely overpowered compared to other weapons.

"They for real made an aimbot pistol. This game is done for," said one fan. As the Lock On Pistol is similar to the Smart Pistol in Titanfall, others have started to enjoy the fun aspect of this gun.

"The new Lock on Pistol is perfection. It's what we need more of. Keep aim on the player and 4 shots hit 100%. Shoot randomly and lower the chance of a direct hit. [It's] Tactical and makes you play smart and use your brain," said one on Twitter.

Some even felt like the gun isn't powerful enough. Popular content creator Nick "Nick Eh 30" Amyoony said, "It's cool/unique, but not the greatest in this meta. Buff it please and thank you! Bigger clip size and being able to lock on and hit more than just 4 shots."

Having only been released in April 2023, the Lock On Pistol will continue dividing opinions in Fortnite while it settles into the meta, where it will likely serve as a great gun for early engagements but will be discarded for rarer loot later in the game.
