Even if Dragon's Dogma 2 hasn't exactly made the best name for itself, it's a total blast for those who truly know. The fantasy title is embroiled in the drama surrounding its brutal approach to single-player microtransactions, asking players to shell out extra for items that they can find in-game.

If you're able to ignore aggressive microtransactions (even though it practically paints a target on the game's back), Dragon's Dogma 2 has proved that yet another gigantic fantasy adventure deserves a place in the current gaming space.

Even in spite of the backlash, it has become clear that the long-awaited sequel to 2012's Dragon's Dogma is doing very well for Capcom.

Sales data for Dragon's Dogma 2's opening weeks have been revealed, and already, it's proving to be a huge hit.

In its first 11 days, Capcom's latest outing has sold a whopping 2.5 million units, stretching across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. This is a pretty hot turnaround for the company, especially considering that the first game in the franchise sold 1.05 million units in its first month.

Capcom itself deemed the OG Dragon's Dogma's sales a great success, but now, the franchise has a pretty hefty 10 million units sold overall. "Capcom carried out various global-facing promotional activities with the aim of attracting not only long-time fans of the series but newcomers as well," says a spokesperson.

The statement continued, "Including the launch of a free application that let users create their player avatars prior to the game’s release, as well as in-game pawns made in collaboration with celebrities in various countries and Japanese national athletes."

Dragon's Dogma 2's Steam numbers are massively impressive

It's not just sales that prove Dragon's Dogma 2 is a success. At the time of writing, SteamDB has charted that the game still has a hefty 71,497 players involved. It boasts a huge all-time peak of 228,585 players on Steam alone.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is doing incredibly well, and it serves as part of the ongoing proof that high fantasy has its home in gaming. Not that we needed reminding, but these fans aren't going anywhere fast.
