Deathloop Is ‘Broken’ On PC And Fans Are Unhappy
Deathloop has been making serious waves in the gaming world. What is thought to be the last game under Bethesda's wing to spread outside of Xbox has been scoring massively with critics (and us, as our review of Deathloop proves), and as fans dive into the time loop themselves, it’s clear to see why.
But, it seems like one of the two platforms that the twisty FPS has launched on has got the short end of the stick, and fans aren’t happy.
Why is Deathloop being Review-Bombed On PC?
PC players of Deathloop seem deeply unhappy with their experiences of the game, as supposedly, performance issues are ruining the experience. A huge slew of players have leapt on the Deathloop Steam page to leave negative reviews in the face of the supposed troubles the game is having running on players’ hardware. "Unplayable laggy multiplayer and constant crashes", says user Juliana.
Another user, who listed their incredibly impressive PC specs, has also cited problems despite their powerful rig. "Game performed well until I was through with the tutorial, then I dipped from 120 FPS average to below 5 with incredibly bad stuttering at 1440p. [...] I love Arkane, I want to support them. But this is unacceptable for top of the line hardware to perform so poorly on an *okay* looking game. I’ll consider re-purchasing the game if these issues are fixed." Yikes.
But, some players think something else is to blame for the performance issues.
What Is Denuvo? And What Does It Have To Do With Deathloop?
A lot of negative reviews are citing Denuvo, something that many of the disappointed fans are attributing the performance issues of Deathloop to. Denuvo is an anti-piracy software that runs alongside the game to ensure they aren’t pirated copies of the title. The trouble with this is that it has to actually run with the game, impacting performance (or at least, according to fans).
Denuvo has insisted that its software wouldn’t impact game performance, but fans’ suspicions aren’t letting up.
Whether it be the anti-piracy software or another factor, it’s a shame that the next-gen title is struggling on PC. It seems like the PlayStation 5 is the best place to play Deathloop, but that won’t come with much glee for PC users.
