There's a dark entity calling out from the Void, as it sounds like Behaviour Interactive's Dead by Daylight could be the next video game to make the leap into live-action or animation. Bring on the Dead by Daylight TV series.

Since this asymmetric horror crawled out of the abyss in 2016, we've seen Dead by Daylight go from strength to strength. Like Fortnite's pop culture crossovers, the continued line of horror collabs mixed with unique creations has kept Dead by Daylight ticking along.

Is a Dead by Daylight series coming?

The idea of a DbD series or movie has been floated before, but now, Game Director Mathieu Côté has told ComicBook.com it could be rumbling forward. "I really wish I could give you a date or a timetable," said Côté. "I've got the popcorn ready, it's over there. You're absolutely right. I would love to be able to do that."

Saying that there's an uptick in video game adaptations like Netflix's The Witcher and HBO's The Last of Us, Côté added, "Fortunately for us, there is more and more of an understanding of the value and an understanding of the form in the people who are the TV and whatever, the movie industry."

He concluded, "There's a bit more of a sensibility to the stories that we tell, what a good adaptation can look like." As for when we could see some mythical DbD adaptation, he admitted, "That's all I can say at this point."

What form could a Dead by Daylight series take?

It seems improbable, but just imagine a horror version of The Expendables with a who's who of horror icons. As Freddy vs. Jason is an underrated gem, who wouldn't want to see Leatherface take on Pinhead? More likely, a Dead by Daylight adaptation wouldn't be able to wrangle the rights.

Because Dead by Daylight has created a creepy cast of killers like The Hag, The Spirit, and The Hillbilly, we picture a horror anthology focusing on each of them - possibly coming together for an overarching series.

Amazon's The Purge series didn't blow us away before it was canned, but a Dead by Daylight series could also play out similarly, where a cast of characters are hunted down by demonic creatures. We'd probably avoid the idea of a DbD movie, but to be honest, we'd be happy to see it in any medium.

Just like live-action adaptations are having a resurgence, so are horror games. Combining the two, we've got a Five Nights at Freddy's movie and whispers of Dead Space getting the same treatment. As long as it's better than Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, we'll embrace a Dead by Daylight adaptation.
