Call of Duty has so many branches of its tree nowadays, it's sometimes hard to pick which vine to swing from. With Warzone racking up north of 100 million players, CoD: Mobile posting over double these figures, Black Ops Cold War having multiplayer and zombies gameplay, and Modern Warfare retaining a large player base to the near-outdated game, Activision's tree is starting to look more like a spider's web made of the same silk that lines their cash-filled trouser pockets.

With many directions to take the franchise, it now looks like the developers will momentarily steer players towards Black Ops Cold War by treating Call of Duty fanatics to a sweet surprise.

Starting on May 27, Black Ops Cold War multiplayer and Outbreak will be free-top-play, according to Charlie Intel.

Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer and Outbreak Free To Play Weekend:

Despite not being confirmed by the developers (as of writing), it appears that promo posters have indicated that the game will be free for all gamers to access. Starting on May 27, and running through to June 1, the modes will be opened to anyone, in a bid to send more traffic to their games and persuade players to buy the full game once the weekend is out.

The free trial will give players a chance to access easier ways to level up your Black Ops Cold War weapons and to explore the Outbreak Zombies mode after it was filled with new content on May 20.

Free Games and Double XP

Who doesn't love a good combo-wombo? Activision has already confirmed that Black Ops Cold War users will be gifted Double XP from May 28 to May 31, allowing any players on the current instalment of Call of Duty to be able to fly through the prestige with ease.

The Double XP is for ranks only, Double Weapon XP will not be activated, although it may be a good time to activate those tokens that are gathering dust whilst you're on the grind.

The Double XP event will be live from 10am, and will allow for the free-to-play soldiers to also enjoy the bonuses.
