With little doubt, Baldur's Gate 3 was one of 2023's biggest games. It's big in a way that defies typical boundaries for "big" games. Large open worlds and endless quests are here, but they're offered to players as they can make extensive and often bonkers choices that change the way they function in-game.

There's nothing else like Baldur's Gate 3 in the gaming world, and the fantasy title has proved tenfold that Larian Studios is a team to watch in the future. Now, it looks like that future is already being conceived.

Baldur's Gate 3's follow-up looks to 'push boundaries'

As if Larian's latest outing didn't push boundaries. After Larian Studios' huge collection of nominations at The Game Awards (including the coveted Game of the Year and Best Game Direction awards), the Baldur's Gate 3's creators are looking forward to the future already.

Its most publicly vocal developer has spoken briefly on the next game that the team is working on. "This is a real honor, especially in a year with so many releases," says Swen Vincke in a quote tweet.

"Seeing our little 'niche rpg' make such waves is very motivating. I wish I could tell you about our next big game but this is really encouraging us to ensure it pushes many boundaries. I’m very excited about it."

Seeing that the team is looking for something revolutionary, especially after its incredible work on Baldur's Gate 3 is compelling. We don't know what's next, but chances are, it's pretty massive. Don't assume this is Baldur's Gate 4, as let's remember, Larian is also known for the Divinity series.

Baldur's Gate 3 could be up for a Game Awards sweep

Fans are starting to theorise which nominees will make a sweep of the biggest categories at The Game Awards - and even though it's standing up against titans like Tears of the Kingdom and Spider-Man 2, many expect that the shock appearance of Larian Studios will lead to it winning the biggest awards on offer.

It would be a hugely justified choice, and frankly, it'd be a righteous win for a company that has risen to popularity and released one of the biggest games of the year in one fell swoop. We've got our fingers crossed for Larian.
