Apex Legends might see some minor changes from time to time, but one of the recent constants have been the Evo shields. Since season 6 they’ve remained practically the same, and their buffs are essential to Apex gameplay, perhaps even more so than the game’s weapons.

But now, there’s a chance they could be changing, and it’s all in the efforts to keep players happy with their usage.

Respawn Entertainment’s Associate Live Balance Designer John Larson (commonly known online as JayBiebs) has put the conversation of Evo shields to the people. In a tweet, he asks fans if they have any thoughts on the current balance of the armour system of the game. “Amount of damage needed for each level?” he suggests. “Too many red shields end-game? Purple/ red vs. gold?” He lists potential issues in the game to get some feedback from fans.

Fans have replied to the tweet in droves - but the response is much more positive than you might expect.

Fans React To Evo Shield Suggestions

Some fans have responded to this dev question very positively, in defiance of expectations of furious games. Most notable among the replies is one from Hakis, a professional Apex player for the team The Alliance. He suggests that in fact, the shields might not be the problem at all.

Another player has suggested that the shields work, but could do with a little bit of a nerf when it comes to gaining Evo using weapons with high ammo counts.

Whether or not the shields are due for a change, it’s worth noting that the suggestions were put to the fans of Apex Legends first. It’s clear that the game is a fan-first title, and the fact that fans have had their say is is proof that the community is the most important thing to Respawn.
