Warzone 2.0 has become practically the sole Call of Duty battle royale experience, and even though the first Warzone game is still playable (currently titled Warzone Caldera to help differentiate it from its little brother), players have all but left it in the dirt.

The OG Warzone set the stage for what was to come, and though many fans will attest that Verdansk is the best map that Call of Duty has ever offered fans, its bugs and cheaters became too much to bear. Though its follow-up has inherited most of them, it's still manageable, and Warzone 2.0 is still going strong.

But it turns out that it might not be Warzone 2.0 for much longer. Activision is officially renaming the battle royale favourite ahead of Season 4.

Warzone 2.0 has been renamed

The new season of Warzone 2.0 is almost here, and as it gears up for a full reveal at Summer Game Fest, there are still plenty of revelations to come. Ahead of time, we've been informed of a pretty massive change.

It turns out that the battle royale game is set to drop its moniker as the second Warzone game, and will be changing its name from Warzone 2.0 to simply Warzone.

To a certain degree, it makes sense - players refer to the game simply as Warzone anyway, and it helps to advertise the game as the core Call of Duty experience. However, this could lead to some potentially frustrating historical documentation of the games.

Call of Duty changes its logo

To pile on top of these changes in iconography, Call of Duty has also revealed that it's changing its logo, which many didn't even think about - given that it's so simple and does the job so well.

The new logo is reminiscent of a more arcade-style shooter, and though the changes are minimal, fans aren't entirely sure that they're into it.

There are a lot of changes clearly coming to Call of Duty, and only time will tell if it ends here. Maybe 2023 is gearing up to welcome a full overhaul of the franchise - and lord knows, it's overdue.
