You'll want to know all about the Last Of Us Remake, including the release date and more on what we know about the upcoming game.

The Last Of Us has remained among one of the most critically acclaimed games ever since its release back in 2013, and its sequel The Last Of Us Part II proved to be incredibly divisive. However, even more divisive is the news of a potential The Last Of Us remake, so let's get into everything we know about it, including its release date and more.

The Last Of Us Remake has a release date of September 2, 2022.

Previously, a post from VGC reported that The Last Of Us remake was "nearly finished" and could be released in 2022. They reported based on a claim from Industry Insider Tom Henderson who claimed to have heard his statement from "multiple people".

Based on the confirmed release date, it seems like the rumours were true, and players won't have to wait long to experience the old game remade anew.

The Last Of Us Remake: A remake, not remaster

The Last Of Us remake wouldn't be the first re-release of the title, as it was remastered for PlayStation 4 back in 2014. However, there is a massive difference between both the remaster and this supposed remake. While the remaster was a boost of frame rate and some slight graphical improvement, the base experienced played like a slightly better version of the PS3 original.

The remake on the other hand, will be a full rework to animation, gameplay and sound. This is believed to be so that the experience can be brought more in line with the 2020 sequel, Part II, which featured far more realistic facial animation, smoother gameplay, and some of the best audio design around at the time.

However, it is unlikely that Naughty Dog, who have reportedly taken over the project from PlayStation's Visual Arts Service Group, would bring back actors such as Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson to recapture the entirety of the first game.

Due to this speculation, there is a level of uncertainty to how much of an upgrade this will, be however, gameplay wise it will most likely be a marked improvement.

This may sound like some tin-hat speculation, but during Sony's CES Joel and Ellie character models turned up in a blink and you'll miss it appearance, looking a little too detailed to be the original models. Sony may have been showing off the brand new remake character models right under our noses.

The Last Of Us Remake: It could come with Part II Director's Cut

Among Henderson's comments on The Last Of Us remake, he also claimed that both The Last Of Us Part 2 Director's Cut and multiplayer game could partner the remake.

There had been no word before this point on a Director's Cut of Part II, although after the releases of Director's Cuts for both Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding last year, it would make sense. A Director's Cut would bring improved visual fidelity, boosted frame rate, and potentially some additional content.

That content very well could be the multiplayer component of Part II which was delayed from the main release in 2020. As a fan-favourite and severely underrated multiplayer mode, a follow-up to The Last Of Us Factions would undoubtedly be a hit with the Last Of Us community.

Despite not speaking a word of the multiplayer since its delay, multiple job listings show that Naughty Dog continue to work on an untitled multiplayer game.
