Rocksteady’s upcoming entry in the Arkham-verse, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, features a merry band of anti-heroes - and some might be wondering if the infamous Poison Ivy will be making an appearance.

However, those who played Arkham Knight will know that Pamela Isley met her untimely demise at the hands of Scarecrow after she used her powers to save Gotham from a deadly gas. Given Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League takes place after the events of Arkham Knight, how could her appearance be possible?

Thankfully, Rocksteady has a few surprises up its sleeve to explain the potential return of Poison Ivy in this new game. Here’s what we know.

Is Poison Ivy in the game?

Yes, Poison Ivy appears in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as an important side character. As confirmed in a developer update from Rocksteady Studios, Isley is resurrected in the upcoming game and meets the Suicide Squad on their journey to take down Brainiac and the Justice League.

In the developer insider video, we see a lengthy clip of the Suicide Squad meeting Ivy for the first time since her demise. We see her rise from the earth inside one of her iconic gigantic plants, but she’s not quite as we remember her.

While Poison Ivy is alive and well, she’s now the age of a middle-school child, without any of her previous memories fighting Batman in the Arkham games. She explains to Harley that until now, she’s been held captive by Lex Luthor in his base of operations in Metropolis. In return for helping him with some of his no doubt nefarious projects, she’s been allowed an hour of photosynthesis.

Since Luthor has now disappeared following Brainiac’s invasion, Ivy has broken free and is all set to help the Suicide Squad on their mission to take down the Justice League. It’s not totally clear what sort of role Poison Ivy will play in the larger story of Kill the Justice League, but we’re looking forward to finding out more. Perhaps we’ll get revenge on Lex Luthor for keeping her captive?

As for how Poison Ivy survived her apparent death in Arkham Knight, we need to revisit the site of her death in the 2015 game. If you return to the rooftop where Ivy met her demise, you’ll find a Riddler puzzle to solve that reads: “A natural cure for Scarecrow's doom, your saviour's gone but still in bloom."

This refers to Ivy, and if you look at the foot of the massive tree on the roof, you’ll see a small green and red plant that resembles one of Ivy’s. This would indicate that a part of Ivy survived, planted in the ground for her to re-emerge later down the line.

It’s not entirely clear how much time has passed between Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad, but it’s several years at least. As such, when we next see the resurrected Poison Ivy, we see that she’s currently the age of a young child.
