It's no surprise that anyone would want to see if there'll be a Rise of the Ronin PS4 port, or even a version on PC or Xbox, given how fun Team Ninja's open-world samurai adventure looks.

However, PlayStation fans hoping to enjoy the action RPG on last-gen hardware will sadly be disappointed.

Will Rise of the Ronin be on PS4?

No, Rise of the Ronin will not come to PS4. This was confirmed in the FAQ towards the bottom of the game's page on the PlayStation website, stating that it "will not be available to play on the PlayStation 4 console."

Given that on the same FAQ, it's mentioned that RotR is a PS5-exclusive game that's been built specifically for the system, the PS4 being left out comes as no surprise.

Sure, whilst things can always change, committing to a PS4 port would essentially mean going back to re-engineer parts of the game and make downgrades so it's fit for the old machine.

Team Ninja could still do that, but since they've gone out of their way to address that question in the FAQ ahead of time, I'd say a PS4 version is the least likely out of the other platforms.

Do we know if it'll be on PC?

There hasn't been a Rise of the Ronin port announced for PC yet, but a PC version would be the most likely out of the extra platforms here.

Although the releases for the console's exclusives onto platforms like Steam and Epic Games have been slow in the past, PlayStation is aiming to get more 'aggressive' in its PC releases according to a Eurogamer interview with chairman and Sony President, Hiroki Totoki, to improve the company's "margin performance".

Whilst Rise of the Ronin isn't technically a first-party exclusive as the interview mentions, it's published by Sony Interactive Entertainment themselves - making the funding of a PC version more feasible compared to otherwise.

After all, Team Ninja's Nioh games were eventually released on PC under the same circumstances, so Rise of the Ronin can easily follow suit if seen fit.

Nevertheless, optimising a PS5 console title for computers is still a timely process - similar to what I found when looking into Final Fantasy 16 on PC.

Could Rise of the Ronin come to Xbox?

Currently, there are no plans for Rise of the Ronin to come to Xbox. It joins the PS4 in the likelihood of never seeing the game come to the platform.

Again taking the Nioh games as a case study, both the first and second entries are yet to appear anywhere outside of PlayStation and PC.

Since Rise of the Ronin is a PS5 exclusive made for that console, with Sony Interactive Entertainment publishing the game themselves like with the Nioh games - it never coming to Xbox is an almost certainty, even if the Series X|S would be more technologically reliable than the PS4.
