Pokemon GO Therian Form Tornadus is the first and only pure Flying-type added to Pokemon GO to date. Anyone interested in catching this form of the Gen V Legendary will likely need to defeat it in a Raid, and to do so, it'll require some good Pokemon counters. Pokemon GO Tornadus Therian Form is pretty powerful, so be sure to bring the right Pokemon and take advantage of its weaknesses. Once caught, it can do decent in battles for you, though it isn't the most powerful Flying-type around. Equipping it with the best moves will maximise its potential. This guide will show you how to go about all that.

  • Tornadus is one of the many Pokemon from the Unova region available in Pokemon GO. To obtain some others, you'll need Pokemon GO Unova Stones

As a pure Flying-type, Tornadus has three weaknesses:

  • Rock
  • Ice
  • Electric

Unfortunately for those facing off against it, Tornadus has a bunch of resistances, too:

  • Bug
  • Fighting
  • Grass
  • Ground (extra resistance)

Luckily, there are quite a few super-powerful Electric, Ice, and Rock-types that will make quick work of Tornadus. Here are some of the best picks to bring into a Raid against Tornadus:

  • Zekrom (Charge Beam | Wild Charge)
  • Rhyperior (Smack Down | Rock Wrecker)
  • Mega Manectric (Charge Beam | Wild Charge)
  • Mega Abomasnow (Powder Snow | Ice-type Weather Ball)
  • Mamoswine (Powder Snow | Avalanche)
  • Raikou (Thunder Shock | Thunderbolt)
  • Zapdos (Thunder Shock | Thunderbolt)
  • Galarian Darmanitan (Ice Fang | Avalanche)
  • Terrakion (Smack Down | Rock Slide)
  • Therian Thundurus (Volt Switch | Thunderbolt)
  • Rampardos (Smack Down | Rock Slide)

As we mentioned before, Pokemon GO Tornadus Therian Form is far from the strongest 'mon in the game. Unlike its two brethren, Landorus and Thundurus, Tornadus is actually weaker in its Therian Form. However, in PvP, it has some utility.

In PvE, Therian Tornadus is not a great choice to bring into a Raid or gym battle. Opt for better Flying-types like Moltres, Staraptor, Rayquaza, Honchkrow, or Mega Pidgeot. If you do decide to use it, it's not the worst choice ever. The best moves for PvE are Gust and Hurricane.

In PvP, Therian Tornadus has some use in the Ultra and Master leagues, though it'll fail to impress in most contexts. Luckily, its best PvE moveset also applies in PvP: Gust and Hurricane. However, it'll also perform fairly well with Psychic or Focus Blast as charge moves. Focus Blast will be a good counter to those pesky Rock-types that serve as one of Tornadus's weaknesses.

  • Another one of the Forces of Nature, Landorus, is quite a powerful Pokemon, too. Check out our guide to Pokemon GO Landorus for the lowdown.
