Pokemon GO: Misunderstood Mischief Special Research Tasks And Rewards

Back in September, the Season of Mischief began in Pokemon GO. This period of the game focused heavily on the Mythical Pokemon Hoopa, known for causing mischief. As part of the season, a Special Research questline was given to anyone who played, called Misunderstood Mischief. This Special Research in Pokemon Go cannot be accessed anymore, but anyone who obtained it during the event window can still complete it if they haven’t yet. By working on this questline, you’ll be able to encounter Hoopa in its Confined form. Here are all the Pokemon Go Misunderstood Mischief steps and their rewards!

• Another Mythical Pokemon was made available via Special Research around the same time that Hoopa was. Here are all of the Pokemon Go Search for Zarude research tasks and rewards.

Step 1

• Make 10 Nice Throws - 1x Incense
• Use an Incense - 10x Poke Ball
• Take 3 snapshots of wild Psychic-type Pokemon - 10x Nanab Berry

Rewards: 1,000 XP, 500 Stardust, Gothita encounter

Rewards: 720 Stardust, 720 XP

Step 3

• Make 5 Curveball Throws - 15x Poke Ball
• Catch 10 different species of Pokemon - 15x Great Ball
• Earn 5,000 Stardust - 3x Max Revive

Rewards: 1,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust, Hoopa (Confined) encounter

Step 4

Rewards: 720 Stardust, 720 XP

Step 5

• Power up Pokemon 10 times - 15x Great Ball
• Catch 20 Psychic-type Pokemon - Abra encounter
• Evolve 3 Psychic-type Pokemon - 10x Revive

Rewards: 10x Hyper Potion, 10x Inkay candy, Wobbuffet encounter

Step 6

There are no tasks in this step. 

Rewards: 720 Stardust, 720 XP

Step 7

• Take a snapshot of your Buddy - Furfrou encounter
• Catch a Furfrou - 1x Fast TM
• Earn a heart with your Buddy - 1x Charged TM 

Rewards: 1x Unova Stone, 15x Furfrou candy, Minccino encounter

Step 9

• Make 3 Nice Curveball Throws - 15x Slowpoke candy
• Transfer 30 Pokemon - Galarian Slowpoke encounter
• Evolve one Slowpoke - 1,990 XP 

Rewards: 5x Max Potion, 40 Slowbro Mega Energy, Shedinja encounter

Step 10

Rewards: 720 Stardust, 720 XP

Step 11

• Earn 3 candies walking with your Buddy - 10x Yamask candy
• Catch 30 Ghost-type Pokemon - 10x Phantump candy
• Catch 30 Dark-type Pokemon - 10x Pumpkaboo candy

Rewards: 15x Ultra Ball, 40 Gengar Mega Energy, Pikachu (Mimikyu Costume) encounter

Step 12

• Make a new friend - Meditite encounter
• Send 10 Gifts to friends - Chinchou encounter
• Use 20 Berries to help catch Pokemon - 2x Silver Pinap Berry

Step 15

• Defeat 5 Team GO Rocket Grunts - 1x Rocket Radar
• Defeat 3 Team GO Rocket Leaders - 1x Super Rocket Radar
• Defeat the Team GO Rocket Boss - 1x Lucky Egg

Rewards: 2x Golden Razz Berry, 40 Houndoom Mega Energy, Absol encounter

Step 16

• Claim Reward - 2,000 XP
• Claim Reward - 2,000 XP

Changing Hoopa’s Form

Any Trainers who completed the Misunderstood Mischief questline before a certain date would gain access to a new questline titled “Mischief Unbound.” Completing the second step of this research would grant the ability to change Hoopa’s form from Hoopa Confined to Hoopa Unbound. 

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there’s no way to change Hoopa’s form if you didn’t reach this milestone. There is also no way to obtain that Special Research. Never fear, Niantic will most likely add a new method in the future. 

For those who did gain the ability to change Hoopa’s form, here’s how much it costs: 

Hoopa Confined -> Hoopa Unbound

• 10,000 Stardust
• 50 Hoopa candy

Hoopa Unbound -> Hoopa Confined

• 2,000 Stardust
• 10 Hoopa candy
